The song Ronan was inspired by the story of Ronan Thompson and the blog his mother kept documenting his battle with neuroblastoma called Rockstar Ronan. He died May 9, 2011. The blog was viewed by more than 6 million people including Taylor Swift. Swift followed the blog for over a year and was inspired to write a song which she performed on September 7, 2012, live, a the Stand Up To Cancer telethon. Maya Thompson was given writing credits for the parts of the song taken from her blog she first heard the song live on TV after being contacted by Swifts's publicist and meeting at a concert in Phoenix. All proceeds from the song have been given to benefit cancer research.
