This song depicts Taylor's worries and fears about her future and may have been inspired by multiple artists. There is speculation that one of the subjects is singer songwriter Joni Mitchell, who Swift was rumored to be portraying in an upcoming film. Mitchell ended her recording career nearly ten years ago "chose the rose garden over Madison Square," has a "made up name," her real name is Roberta Joan Anderson, and "looking like a sixties' queen" released her first album in 1968. Others have speculated that the song may also be subtly referring to artist Lana Del Rey. We still have no idea if either is who she is really singing about, and we're not getting much help from Tay on the subject of this one.
