Taylor Swift penned the girl-next-door anthem You Belong With Me while on tour after overhearing a phone conversation between one of her guy friends and his girlfriend. She was screaming at him for not calling her back promptly enough - and Taylor could hear her from the other side of the room! She immediately came up with the line, “you’re on the phone with your girlfriend, she’s upset” and concocted the rest of the lyrical narrative from there. Swift admits she wished that something like this had happened to her in high school.
